Blackpool goes even madder

January 19, 2009

Blackpool Council’s puritans have come up with a raft of new anti-drink stunts.
Following last week’s bombshell news that there are to ban the opening of new pubs and off-licences, this week they are distributing 20,000 plastic glasses to pubs and clubs all embossed with anti drink messages and warnings about alcohol units.
The nutters have also [...]

Protz blasts Labour

December 5, 2008

Famed beer writer Roger Protz has written a stinging attack on New Labour which deserves a wide readership. The party’s betrayal of the beer drinker is so cynical, he says, he will never vote for Labour again.

Happy hour saved – updated

December 3, 2008

The Government have backed down from bringing in a new law banning happy hours in pubs. Peter Mandleson gave it a last-minute knock back from the Queen’s speech after realising it was electoral suicide and would put even more pubs out of business.
There will, however, be a Policing and Crime Bill which was flagged up as feminist attack on [...]

Drinkers Alliance demands our voice is heard

October 15, 2008

The reason I started this blog was to give a voice (albeit a rather mouse-like one) to those who were fed up with being lectured to by do-gooders and neo-Puritans who want to see our right to enjoy booze restricted.
I mused that there may be a political movement in all of this, although my appeal for violent revolution [...]

Liverpool pubs warned

August 20, 2008

Under police pressure, Liverpool pubs have been clubbing together to fix the price of drinks, says the Morning Advertiser.

Revenge of the Blood Tub

August 4, 2008

Taking umbrage at my view of the Cains situation, Alan Hastings of Ormskirk has contacted me with his opinion.
Mr Hastings has been fighting a campaign to reinstate Moorhouse’s Pendle Witches Brew to the Ship at Lathom, known locally as the Blood Tub. The Ship became a Cains pub following the Liverpool Brewery’s takeover of Honeycombe’s [...]

MPs can’t complain

July 22, 2008

The Government today announced new plans to crack down on booze culture, warning of a tsunami of harm being caused by drinky-poos. On the same day, Guido reveals that our MPs are getting £8,500-worth of hooch on the taxpayer each year.
The SD has nothing against anyone enjoying a cheap drink, it’s just the nannying hypocrisy [...]

Smaller wine

July 21, 2008

The Government say they want to force pubs to offer smaller glasses of wine. I can just imagine the celebrating in the street. “Yes!” will shout the girls “Thank god for Gordon Brown. Now we can drink less wine in the pub.”
Meanwhile, check out Tyson on the 10% can of lager. Coming to a page [...]

Government may ban happy hours

July 20, 2008

Start building the barricades. According to The Sunday Times, the Department of Health (otherwise known as DOH!) and the Home Office will shortly “consult the public” on new measures to curb the “irresponsible” sale of alcohol.
What does this mean, police closing down pubs because the booze is 10p cheaper for an hour? It’s time we [...]

Booze cost to rise by 31%

July 1, 2008

That’s what the Daily Mirror is reporting today. Pints costing £3.38 will save 3,250 lives by 2012 says clueless health minister Dawn Primarolo.
Does she really believe rubbish like that? Does she really think alcoholics will stop drinking to save a few pence?  They’ll just cut down on luxuries such as food  and heating.
