The pub was too far (approx 600m) out of the square for drinkers to travel to and became uneconomic. A change in the country's drinking trends will lead to more and more pub closures/redevelopment. It seems not. In response to RedNev, I think we need housing far more than we need "community pubs" that no-one actually wants to visit. The truth is that if these places were adapted to suit the changing demographic of the areas in which they're situated, they might not be converted into private residences for those people who are changing the demographic.
