Had a sannie there the other day, not bad, priced a bit over the top , What i want to know where are the burgers, hot dogs and chips gone, was sunny late sunday, but it was shut…anyone know if its reopening soon??

I hope the nasty comments below do not put people off visiting the Ship and making their own judgement. After being closed for many months the new licencees have fully painted the premises and continue to improve the look of the Ship Inn both inside and out.
Granted I don’t think they realised how busy it gets on a sunny day and improvements continue to be made (extra staff/more tills etc)
As for the staff they are extremely friendly/ welcoming and very presentable. I highly recommend the home-made half and half pie, it’s delicious
Don’t take my word for it try it yourself and I think you will be pleasantly surprised

Four real ales from spotless hand pumps, including mild. Freshly painted and totally in keeping with a canalside pub built over two hundred years ago, I have no problems in paying £2.30 for an excellent pint of ale from local and small independent breweries. Paul and Stacey have only been in residence for a few weeks and will adapt to the battering it gets in terms of numbers on a blistering hot weekend. Extra staff and tills etc. will,I am sure,be in place soon. As for catering for children, there is a fenced off activity play area. Canals, like roads or railway lines are potentially dangerous places. Adults with children sometimes have the impression that as soon as they enter a public house they can abandon all care and their children become someone elses responsibilty.

What a load of made up rubbish, as a local having seen three pubs shut down over the last twelve months due to hard times for pubs, its a welcome sight to seee The Ship re open. The managers are trying to make a go of this lovely canal side pub and have made great improvements. Having only been open a matter of weeks…can you imagine them allowing their staff to have grubby overalls, greasy hair, overfilled ashtrays and unkempt grounds. Come on get real !
By the way with regard to the grubby pub…pubs with beautiful open fires tend to have some smoke marks around the fire the the lovely smell off wood and ash lying around the fireplaces, which only adds to its wonderful ambience.
I hope your nasty and potentially damaging remarks dont stop people from giving this lovely pub a try.
We have had lovely afternoons in this hospitable hostelry, with good freshly prepared, value for money food.
Good Luck to the Ship and ALL WHO SAIL IN HER !!!!

CONGRADULATIONS !!! on the re opening of ‘The Ship’ at Haskayne. We were there on Sunday 14th June and were told there would be a wait of about an hour for food. As the setting was so idyllic and the food being served looked so scrumptious we decided to wait, and sat on the bank watching the boats sail by.It was well worth the wait, the food was presented fresh, plenty of it by very nice staff and very reasonably priced.
The gardens are lovely and well kept and the pub certainly isn’t grubby.
We didnt see greasy haired staff in grubby overalls,with overflowing ashtrays. The previous comments sounds like a description of another place…not The Ship we enjoyed on that lovely day.
Give it a try and judge for yourself, you wont be dissapointed.What you see is what you get, Don’t suppose you can please all of the people all the time.

The Ship Inn isn’t a grubby Pub infact it is a lot cleaner than it was. We were at the Ship last Saturday 13th June and sat outside ,the tables weren’t littered and there is nothing wrong with the gardens. Stacey and Paul are very good Licencees. Their Beers are excellent and good prices. We can’t understand why some people are making these

WAS GOING TO EAT THERE SUNDAY THE 14TH, BUT NOTICED A SCUFFY UNTIDY WOMEN COMING OUT OFF THE KITCHEN AREA, PICKING HER NOSE, THOUGHT NO WAY……DRANK UP AND WENT TO THE STANLEY UP THE ROAD AND A LOVELY SUNDAY LUNCH (2COURSES) FOR THE SAME PRICE AS THE SHIP !!!!!

I visited this pub on Saturday 13 June 2009 with friends who were visiting from Yorkshire. We intended to have a meal but decided against it when we saw a woman emerge from the kitchen with greasy hair and wearing a filthy overall. The place was very grubby and the garden was particularly unpleasant. The tables needed painting and were overfowing with glasses, plates and ashtrays. As we were leaving we heard several people complaing about the length of time that they had been waiting for their meals. Needless to say I will not be going there again.

I can only assume that the above two comments were left by the actually owners of The Ship as I ate there yesterday and have to say it is quite frankly disgusting. Its a long time since I had been to The Ship but I remembered it as being a lovely canalside pub with lovely food. NOTHING could be further from the truth now. it does stand canalside but the pub is filthy, the gardens are filthy, the staff are decidely grubby and not in the least bit pleasant and the good is almost inedible – in fact a companion of mine ordered a ham and cheese baguette at the knockdown price of £6.00 and when it arrived, an hour later, it was in fact what appeared to be gone off pork – being English we obviously made nothing of the fact. In summary, avoid this place at all costs and do not even consider going there if you have children as overflowing ashtrays are littered around the gardens and the tables are overflowing with glasses and bottles neglected to be collected by any of the “staff”.
