Another switch at the Ship
The saga of the Ship in Haskayne trawls on with news that Mike Leigh won’t be taking it over after all.
Although Mike denied all knowledge of this when questioned by the SD, it has now been announced that a couple from Rochdale, Paul and Stacey Stansfield will be taking over the canalside pub.
Stacey and Paul, run an alehouse called the Smithybridge, which looks a game sort of place. They also proudly boast of their commitment to real ale, which should mean good ale at the Ship rather than the John Smiths we were braced for.
Stacey said: “We are going to be bringing our winning formula to the Ship offering good, traditional pub grub at reasonable prices and a good selection of real cask ales .
The couple hope to be at the helm by the beginning of May.

Good news. Ship used to have great choice of real ales and hood food so lets hope it can again. Good luck to the new owners!!

Hi bruce sorry you dident like your day but i would like to answer some of your points
1 It was touch and go to us opening at all we had a lot of trouble with water supply and drainage but we went ahead because we dident want to let down all the people we had promised that we would open
2. If you dident like the food on the bbq it would have been nice for you to have spoken to me or my staff with your concerns we sold a load of burgers that day and only one was returned to the bbq.
3.Smoking is a bad habit i do agree but hey we are not all perfect are we. If taking some time out with my family before all the hard work really starts then so be it and i am sorry if it offends.
We are a friendly hard working couple and easy to talk to and able to take constructive comments and i would hope that you would be able to come and chat to me in person and discuss any problems you may have had.
Can I also thank all the workmen and friends and family that gave up there time to help us open on sunday,It was a very successful day.

Fair Play, Stacey. Bruce’s comments seemed to be more than a bit out of order. And since when was having a crafty fag a crime? Looking forward to visiting the Ship. Especailly with Golden Sands on!

Greetings and good wishes on your venture. We are a folk group, some of whom ran a folk night at the Ship back in the 70’s. You can hear us on http://www.myspace.com/tabbysnook. If you fancy a well run folk night or residency, we’d be pleased to help.
Best wishes Dave, Tony and Nick.
