Golden Sands wins NW beer award
The Southport Brewery’s Golden Sands beer has been crowned best bitter and best beer at the Society of Independent Brewers awards.
At a tense taste-off at Southport’s Scarisbrick Hotel, Paul Bardsley’s brilliant brew battered the best in the North West, following on from last year’s second place. The national finals are in February.
It really is a winner. You can try some while it lasts as the Scarisbrick’s Baron’s Bar is holding a beer festival of all the brews entered in last night’s competition. What are you waiting for?

Southport Brewery is not yet 5 years old, so winning such a significant award is a great and well-deserved achievement. I generally prefer my beer a bit stronger, but I often make an exception for Southport beers, especially Golden Sands which for me is the best of a good bunch.
Well done!

Pauls beer stood out from the beers offered to us judges, from what I regarded as a generally poor offering this year with a few exceptions. This is not to deny the achievement of this excellent beer. Southport brewery now have a website which can be linked to from southportcamra.org.uk
