Happy hour saved – updated

The Government have backed down from bringing in a new law banning happy hours in pubs. Peter Mandleson gave it a last-minute knock back from the Queen’s speech after realising it was electoral suicide and would put even more pubs out of business.

There will, however, be a Policing and Crime Bill which was flagged up as feminist attack on lap-dancing clubs, but looks as if it will include plenty of anti-pub measures such as a ban on certain types of promotions, such as girls drink free deals.

We shall see what else they try to sneak in. Giving police extra powers to close down pubs is a BAD idea.

UPDATE: the planned Bill seems to be getting tougher each hour. BBC has the latest on the crackdown.

  1. instead of banning happy hours the government should put a maximum price on beer about £2.and should encorage family pubs to show kids we don,t all drink to get drunk.the kids drinking on the streets need to see that pubs are not about getting drunk but about being sociable.
