Southport beer festival
This Thursday marks the start of the three-day Southport beer festival at the town’s arts centre. Always a good event, with good beer, it’s well worth a visit. More details can be found by clicking here.
The local Camra, meanwhile has included The Richmond and the Lloyds No1 bar in this year’s Good Beer Guide and have voted the Lakeside its Summer Pub of the Year on the back of its fine Tetley Cask (-; All three pubs have, in the past, received a drubbing from the poison keyboard of the Southport Drinker. Is the local Camra trying to tell me something?
The Bold in Churchtown and the Southport FC bar are out. The Guest House is back in after last year’s big cock-up.
Personally, I think some of Camra’s decisions this year are barmy, but wouldn’t dream of saying anything to that effect.

They often are. Lloyds actually of GBG quality, must be very few and far between, I would imagine.

Lloyds should be in the cheap beer guide, it should be in the certian nice young ladies go there guide and nice bar ladies work there guide, it should be in the wait ages to be served guide cause some old dear wants to change her coffee for a tea guide, it should be in the OK scoff for very reasonable prices guide, it should be in the excellent deals on spirits guide, but the good beer guide? No. The beer is always too cold and IMHO is always in a worse condition than, say, the Barons bar. Try two george wrights the same and youll see what I mean. This is why i wont join CAMRA because they havent got a fuckin clue about proper beer leave the guest house out last year and put the Lakeside in this year and southport fc bar when there isn’t even real ale there. you said it…BARMY
