The best pubs in Southport and district plus news and views from beer land

Bard day’s flight

The Shakespeare (WD Sutton’s) on Scarisbrick New Road, Southport, looks likely to close its doors within the week. Always sad to see a pub go, especially one with a place in my youthful memories.

P.S Don’t forget the meet the brewer night in Formby tonight

  1. I echo the sentiments – sad to see any pub go but in this case I can only say that in my opinion, the landlords brought about their own demise. Lovely people but not a clue, Punch put them over the proverbial barrel and left them hanging there till their pockets were well and truly empty. Unfortunately the dreamers that run the Shake, or let it run itself, live in cloud cuckoo land when it comes to business. Good luck with their new venture, which is apparently a management role at Roly Adams new hotel, the Metropolitan. Let’s hope they don’t end up serving beer from cans and having the gas supply cut off there.

  2. Brilliant stuff, Barmaid.

  3. They did a moonlight flit, I heard. Dont blame em
