Owen’s too posh?

Owen’s bar, arguably Southport’s poshest drinking place, has gone into administration. Owner Tony Owen promises there will be a “positive outcome” but will say no more.

He must have borrowed heavily to fund the building of the newly-attached restaurant and the boutique hotel that’s under construction. The business is still trading, but rumours are flying.

Does this signal the fact that locals want low-rent boozing and not overpriced cocktails? I’ll keep you updated on developments.

  1. Owen’s in my opinion is a great alternative to other offerrings in the area, it serves great food and has pleasant staff, far more appealing to my friends and i than what you describe as “low rent boozers”
