Sandpiper to be demolished
The former Sandpiper pub in Woodvale is to be demolished.
Lease holders Punch Taverns plan to give the building, which has been empty for several years, to Sefton Council after failing to find a new tenant.
The building has fallen into a serious state of disrepair, leaving the council with little option but demolition.
The date of the hand-over has not been fixed as there are several legal issues to iron out first, including contacting the current landlord who is believed to be in the middle east.
A shame, as a strong licensee and a bit of support could have turned this into a good community local.
However there was two bars on the street already, including the mysterious Brookfield, which I have never dared venture into for fear of what would befall me, and the top St John Stone’s RC social club.

Sorry to hear the bad news, also it is rumored The Windmill at Parbold may suffer the same fate, although still trading daily .especially the glorious Bombardier bitter and good food, the rumour is that the latest moneygrabbing landlord wants the tennants Paul and Shiela out so the pub can be demolished and in its place yet more luxury apartments that no one will be able to afford can take its place.

And the same thing happened to the Berkley arms and Nigels bar and probably to loads more – something must be done

I can’t believe somewhere where I spent part of my childhood has been or is being demolished. My mum and dad (mo and Alan Hampson) ran the Sandpiper for a few years in the 80’s and it was always packed. So sad.
