Kirk win beer cup

Ormskirk RUFC have won promotion to the South Lancs/Cheshire League Division one – but are in the Premier League when it comes to booze.

Ormskirk travelled to Dukinfield on Saturday knowing that a win would guarantee promotion. They lost 18-5 but went up by points difference as Sefton just edged out Southport 8-6 and couldn’t make up the gap.

Coach for the day Adi Molyneux had to get the Sefton result over the phone, when it came the beer started flowing and flowing.

As the team got on the coach they were singing a few traditional rugby songs with titles that are not printable here.

The antics carried on back at Green Lane and the thirsty lads wanted to celebrate in typical rugby fashion. Boat races were won by the forwards but later, with their slimline physiques, they made up for it by winning a very competitive game of ‘Bar Diving’.

This coming Saturday will see the annual ‘John Winn’ trophy being played for as Ormskirk host auld enemies and derby rivals Southport at Green Lane. Kick off 3pm

I imagine the odd port and lemon may be sipped after the game.
