The Baron’s Bar in Southport has been awarded the local Camra’s pub of the year award. A certificate will be presented on April 23 and the pub now goes through to the regional finals.
This is a well deserved success for an ale house that is pulling out all the stops to present a wide range of beers, excellently served. They had previously told me they would make 2008 a special year - they’ve done it already.

I’ve got to agree that George and his team do an excellent job and since the smoking ban we can all actually taste the beer and not throw up halfway through the night when someone exhales poisonous smoke in your direction. I hear there is a plan to publish all the awards that the local branch of CAMRA have awarded over the years on the local website http://www.southportCAMRA.org.uk. Some long departed and some like the Baron’s still going from strength to strength. Its also worth mentioning that Southport Brewery is thriving and often has beers at the Barons.
