Definitely the best lager
Cains have teamed up with artist Peter Blake, designer of The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper album sleeve, to launch a limited edition bottle of its lager.
The Union Jack label kicks off Cains’ support of Liverpool’s Capital of Culture 08 and will be available nationally throughout the year.
Cains do an excellent lager, especially on draft. There’s a cask and a keg version available, both of which are stored or ’lagered’ for three months and is, not probably but definitely, the best British lager that there is.
Also worth checking out is Cains’ 8% Continental style Bock Lager brewed under Reinheitsgebot purity laws with authentic Munich Malt and complemented with Saaz and Hallertau hop.

Cains lager was available in Lloyds bar upto 3 weeks ago until some prat in “head office” removed it from the stock portfolio. At 1.99 for 500ml it was an excellent bottled version of the cask and is sorely missed.

That’s a great shame. They have it at the Guest House sometimes and the Thatch and Thistle. I am surprised – especially given the local ties and big Capital of Culture advertising spend locally – that it’s not more widely available.
