The Queen is dead

I was sorry to see that the Queen Inn, of Aughton Street, Ormskirk, closed as I drove past today on my way to a party. A fellow guest told me it has been boarded up for about a month now and there’s not much hope that someone will take it on.

Although The Queen was never the greatest pub, it’s still sad to see another fallen ale house. Ormskirk has few enough good pubs. I remember meeting the famous John Hatton for a drink there once and he swore he’d never return to the town after pub after pub failed to raise his spirits.

Anyone any suggestions for the best Ormskirk boozer?

  1. The buck ith the vine is first class pub

  2. I always confuse the Queen In with the pub across the road. If I remember correctly the Queen In had the pool table? In the years I spent at Edge Hill I went in to both only once, and that was enough.

I would recommend the Queens Head or, obviously, the Kicking Donkey.

  3. The other pub you’re thinking of is the Greyhound. An okay pub, but for auld men, the kicking donkey used to be called the disgusting donkey so things have obviously changed for the better

  4. The Queens was the best pub in ormy for years when Rollo had it.Shame. Now everyone is spread out all over ormy. I do no think the queens will open again.
