Happy Halloween

What should you be drinking tonight in Southport? The Guest House has Hobgoblin on, a strong, dark, distinctive-tasting ale, Coach House’s Wizard’s Wonder (not that great) and Cottage Whippet’s Howling Ale, a slightly strong session beer with a good, hoppy after-taste.

The Baron’s Bar has Hornbeam’s Golden Wraith, a strong (5%) pale ale that has a boom of bitterness and dry after-swallow. I also popped into the dreaded Lloyds No 1 bar, which is offering a very cold and gassy Halloween Treat beer by the George Wright Brewery from Rainford.

Meanwhile, Tesco were recently selling Badger Pumpkin Beer. It has some novelty value but tastes like one of those homebrew disasters I’ve been forced to drink and grin by well-meaning friends. However, Pumpkin Beer is very popular is America, I understand.
